The German Caritas Association includes numerous professional associations at federal and state level as well as several hundred organisational units and independent associations. Due to the employees working in the numerous counselling and care facilities as well as almost half a million volunteers and helpers, the German Caritas Association is seen as Germany's largest employer under private law. The turnover of the registered association, founded in 1897, amounted to almost 200 million euros in 2019. The Caritas Association of the Archdiocese of Munich-Freising, which we serve, is responsible for more than 350 facilities and more than 9,000 employees.
The German Caritas Association operates in a highly emotional, sensitive environment. The employees are exposed to high pressure every day due to the care of elderly, sick, disabled, socially weak or people in need of care. Those affected as well as their relatives also face great challenges and must be able to find concrete information quickly, easily and clearly.
For this reason, all communication offers must be clearly structured, technically highly effective and at the same time extremely intuitive. In addition, they should perfectly convey the self-image of Caritas. Caritas is as close as possible to people in need of care - digital communication must achieve the same effect.
One system, multiple requirements. By using Pimcore, a wide variety of tasks for Caritas were implemented quickly and with high performance. The flexibility of the programme and the technical understanding of the developers ensure that several projects can be implemented in one system.
Caritas is in constant exchange with those affected, those in need, relatives, employees, volunteers, journalists, stakeholders and donors. We ensure that this communication is targeted and successful.
After the relaunch of the general Caritas website, all websites of the 350 facilities managed by the Caritas Association of the Archdiocese of Munich-Freising had to undergo a relaunch. The facility pages had to be modern, attractive and equipped with a responsive layout in order to ideally address all target groups and at the same time provide all important information. Since Caritas is also in a competitive environment, SEO adjustments such as pagespeed as well as interfaces to third-party programmes were also prioritised.
Once a relaunch went through, the other 259 were actually a piece of cake....
Donations are a central financing element of Caritas. Numerous projects and facilities are financed through them. The combination of charity and donations requires maximum transparency. In addition to programming the special donations website, all projects also had to be transferred to the new system.
Managing several hundred institutions is not only a very big challenge logistically - providing as well as managing important files for journalists, service providers, agencies as well as for use by the institutions themselves is an organisational masterstroke.
